School's Out

Friday was the last day of school here at The Oasis.

Forever.

They're sending the girls to a local school next year in hopes that it will help them learn how to  be a part of the community while they are still under supervision. There is a problem with the girls being overly sheltered here. They grow up in this walled in compound of sorts....living here, eating here, going to school here....and then reality hits when they turn 18, 19, 20....however old they are when they leave.

Oh, this is what life is really like in Guatemala?

Oh, a boy likes me!

I've heard that 8 out of 10 of the girls they send out of here are pregnant within six months. Something has to change. Hopefully this is a small step in the right direction.
